Architecture trends explored in detail for the 5th time at the unique International
Archi Summit is a singular shaped event that sets up the starting point for a three day debate with great names from the International Architecture scene stamping their presence with inspiring conferences.
All around the conference stage new ideas and innovative solutions have their own space in the technical exhibition.
Architecture representation, besides being a technical device or an artistic object, is a form of thought and an expression of knowledge. Images convey intent, and architects, as producers of images, have represented their visions(and, therefore, themselves) in distinctive manners along time. From the apparently spontaneous sketch to hyperrealistic computer generated images, from models to sections, all these might be understood as forms of drawing. In this evening, we’re bringing together makers of images and collectors of images and find out why they often do both.
Building is an act of transformation. Of changing and inclosing otherwise open spaces; of turning visions into physical reality. Planing the way architecture is to be built is to orchestrate an immense amount of mater, energy and money; heroic technical ability or precious ancestral craftsmanship. After an intense, sometimes violent moment, these building choices endure, convening a vast number of cultural values, of locality or appropriation, exuberance or restraint.
Architecture has the power to influence society in a meaningful way. This power can surpass the scale of an intervention: A large endeavour may reshape a hole section of a city at once, but a modestly sized built artefact might hold in itself an immense collective significance. Both are monumental in their effects, on transcending their material condition. In this panel we will navigate through this aspirational sense of architecture, to contribute, beyond what is commissioned, to an ongoing shared history.
This renewed cultural space was built to stage the Culture and Contemporary Arts, from Visual Art to Music, Theater and Dance, Cinema and Gastronomy.
The Carpintarias de São Lázaro rehabilitation project was completed in 2017 and they have now been selected to host Archi Summit due to it’s modern space and concept as well its central location.
Ivo Poças Martins and Matilde Seabra have both studied architecture in Porto and Paris.
Ivo works as a curator and exhibition designer for such institutions as the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, Casa da Arquitectura, Garagem Sul (CCB), Storefront New York and FAUP Research Centre. He writes regularly about architecture.
Matilde is an educator and cultural mediator for the arts, architecture and territory at Talkie-Walkie, founded together with Ana Neto Vieira. She partners with cultural and governmental institutions, art patrons and collectors.
Together, they have designed buildings and started Friendly Fire, a small publishing endeavour that led to take part in the Venice Biennale and the Lisbon Architecure Triennale.
